“Academics United: No to Visa and Immigration” Ban Rally, Binghamton University, Thursday Feb 8th 12:30-1:30pm

Dear Binghamton University Community,

As a community of students and scholars at Binghamton University who are directly and indirectly affected by the President Trump’ s Executive Order for banning citizens of the seven countries from entering the United States, we sincerely invite the entire University to join their fellow students across the US by attending the event entitled as “Academic United- No to Visa and Immigration Ban” on Feb. 9th. The event starts at 12:30Pm in front of the Pegasus Statue.

The executive order effectively bars our colleagues and students from leaving the country to visit their family members, conducting business, doing research, or attending academic conferences. It will prevent internationally based scholars and artists from coming to our campus. In addition, it will disrupt our academic programs by discouraging potential faculty and students. Our students’ parents and family members would be deprived to attend graduation ceremonies and celebrate their academic success together. The Executive Order will also leave a group of our community with a sense of difference and otherness. It will prevent academic collaboration with scholars from those targeted countries on matters of global importance.

As academicians, we express our highest concerns regarding any form of discrimination and exclusion. In order to voice our concerns, we will be gathering on Thursday February 9th at 12:30 in front of the Pegasus Statue.
