Call for Candidates and Elections Committee, Applications due Monday, Feb 27th by 5pm

To all Graduate Students of Binghamton University,

The GSO is calling for responsible, dedicated, and excited candidates to run for office for the period of July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018 for the following GSO Executive Board positions:

∙  President ($11,000 stipend per 1 year term)

∙  Vice President ($11,000 stipend per 1 year term)

∙  Graduate Vice President for Multicultural Affairs ($10,000 stipend per 1 year term)

The deadline for applying is 5:00 pm on Monday, February 27th, 2017.

Please submit the following application documents by email to Abdulrahman Alwuhayb at aalwuha1@binghamton.edu. Applications include:

  1. A personal platform statement (max. 200 words) specifying clearly which position you are applying for and your election platform

  2. A personal photo attached to the statement

  3. A GSO E-board nomination petition form with signatures from 25 graduate students (This petition can be found online here and MUST be submitted as a hard copy to the GSO Main Office, Old Rafuse 114 and 116). Office hours are available here

  4. Eligibility is for graduate students and requires that “candidates for office must have been registered for at least one semester before running for that office and must be matriculated”.

The elections will be held on Thursday, March 30th and Friday, March 31st 2017 on Blackboard. The candidates will be campaigning for their platforms until the date of the elections as they please. Available campaign options include using the Facebook group “GSO Executive Board Elections” and the “Meet the Candidates Coffee-hour” organized by the Elections Committee. Candidates may run for the positions together in teams or individually, but all the above documents are still required for each candidate.

If you are interested in taking part in organizing the elections and want to participate in making sure the elections are carried out in an effective, efficient, and transparent manner, please contact Abdulrahman Alwuhayb at aalwuha1@binghamton.edu. These positions are unpaid (Great to include on a resume), and those considering running for the GSO Executive Board this year are not eligible to participate.
